New York Taxi Workers Alliance (NYTWA), a 28,000-member-strong union of the city’s taxicab drivers, FHV drivers (Uber & Lyft drivers), today joined the nurses’ strike in the city.

A good number of taxi and app-based drivers, led by NYTWA Executive Director Bhairavi Desai and alliance organizer Mohammad Tipu Sultan, joined the nurses’ picket to show support for the 15,000 NYC nurses.

On the 10th consecutive day today, nurses at New York-Presbyterian, Mount Sinai, and Montefiore continued their strike to materialize their demands for higher pay, increased staffing to manage patients, fully funded benefits, and better workplace protections against violence for nurses.

Earlier yesterday (Tuesday), Senator Bernie Sanders and Mayor Zohran Mamdani brought boxes of donuts to the striking nurses outside Mount Sinai West.
