The New York City Council will vote to override the veto and implement ‘intro 276’ to end the abuse of unfair Uber/Lyft Deactivations on January 29th, according to the New York Taxi Workers Alliance (NYTWA).
“Let’s kick off our 2026 together – with a definitive victory! Please attend the Zoom meeting at 8 PM as we plan for the January 29th City Council vote to override the veto by ex-Mayor Eric Adams. Intro 276 will then become law,” the alliance said in a social media post today.
The post added, “Against so much wealth and corporate opposition, we are making it possible to win rights for drivers, cemented UNDER THE LAW. No second-class status.”
Earlier on Thursday 18,2025, the city Council passed the deactivation protection bill ending the threat of unfair “deactivations” or firing for almost 10,000 app-based drivers in the city.
NYTWA pushed the bill through the City Council while Mayor Zohran Mamdani backed the move. Council Member for District 25, Shekar Krisnan, played a key role in passing the bill.
