By Kamal Ahmed, who represent the Bangladeshi drivers’ community, participated in the New York City Taxi and Limousine (TLC) Public Hearing held on December 11, 2024. The hearing discussed two major topics: 1. Wait Time Restrictions for FHVs, 2. Amendment of Insurance Requirements. TLC Commissioner Mr. David Do, the six Board of Commissioners, and 16 speakers participated in the hearing. Mr. Ahmed emphasized the untold sufferings of the drivers as a result of the rising costs of drivers, widespread insurance fraud, regulatory abuse, and imbalanced opportunity, which also put the insurers’ risk management solutions at risk. “More expenses, less opportunity”, He also underscored the need for taking regulatory measures to stop the fraud to stop the bleeding in the industry. Besides, Mr. Ahmed stressed the need for enacting laws and bringing opportunities for the sake of improving the livelihood of drivers and their families.
